Starbrite One Step Teak Cleaner & Brightener Review

Starbrite has combined their teak cleaner and teak brightener products into a handy one-step formula for cleaning and brightening teak wood furniture, decks, and boat sections. As this site is focused on patio furniture, we’ll review Starbrite One Step Teak Cleaner & Brightener from this perspective.

Starbrite’s Cleaner and Brightener is the only teak care product that you absolutely need if you are content to allow your patio furniture to fade to a weathered gray color.

But not everyone is fond of that gray. For those who prefer to preserve some of that delicious golden glow of fresh teak furniture, you can combine this cleaner and brightener with a treatment of either teak oil or Starbright’s teak sealer.

Personally, I prefer teak sealer to teak oil as a better long-term solution for color preservation. The main advantage of sealer is less frequent treatments. Sealer can last up to two years, while an oil treatment could fade within a couple months. With sealer, you also avoid the problem of black spots appearing on the wood surface, which can happen when oil feeds mildew growth.

How to Use Starbrite One Step Teak Cleaner & Brightener

Ok, enough about oils and sealers, let’s get into discussing the product at hand–Starbrite One Step Teak Cleaner & Brightener. As should be obvious from the name, this product is a one-step solution to simplify the process of cleaning and brightening teak wood furniture. As with any wood-care product, be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions correctly:

  • For lightly weathered teak, rinse wood with fresh water before applying the product.
  • For gray, black, or badly weathered teak, apply Teak Cleaner & Brightener directly to dry wood.
  • Spread the product evenly using a scrub pad or stiff-bristle brush.
  • Wait 3 minutes to allow the cleaner time to activate.
  • Scrub in the direction of the wood grain.
  • Rinse off with fresh water.
  • Allow the wood to dry completely before treating with teak sealer.

I have to say, this stuff really works wonders! Dull, weathered teak returns to it’s glorious honey-tone within minutes. Check out the video below for a demonstration of this product on some old, worn-out teak chairs:

As you can see in the video, Starbrite Teak Cleaner & Brightener is super easy to use and incredibly effective.

If you’ve invested a good deal of money into a teak patio set, then at a bare minimum you should be giving it a thorough cleaning at least once a year. Starbrite’s Teak Cleaner & Brightener makes it simple to maintain the beauty of outdoor teak whether you choose to use it as a stand-alone treatment or follow it up with an oil or sealer.
